Cinco de Mayo translates to “fifth of May” and commemorates Mexico’s victory over the second French Empire during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The holiday is more widely recognized and celebrated by Latino communities in the United States than it is in Mexico. Some popular foods that are consumed during Cinco de Mayo include tamales, molé, pico de gallo, guacamole, and barbacoa.
